Two page Tuesday #4

I'm taking a break from the holiday projects today, to share with you a fall themed page, for this round of two-page Tuesday.

 

A favorite activity in our household each fall is raking up the backyard leaves into a giant pile fit for jumping in.  Of course, I can't let the memory pass without snapping a few photos of this beloved tradition and the smiles it brings to my kiddos faces. 

 

This post shows a page I did to record this event last year.  This time around I went with a more neutral cardstock base, accenting the two page spread with some collage type elements.



Supplies used: Cathy Zielske - 3x4 printable (from Scrapbook and Cards Today Fall 2014 issue); Pebbles - patterned paper; American Crafts - patterned paper (yellow/white stripe); Studio Calico - wood veneer heart; Crate Paper - wood frame; Maya Road - kraft envelope; Bazzill Basics - cardstock; Doodlebug Design - enamel dots; Kerri Bradford - cut file title; Other - machine stitching. computer font, silhouette.

The majority of my design is focused toward the middle portion of each page.  Because of this I thought the left and right-most edges of my spread needed a little something to frame out the design.  Trimming a 2" section of the width of each of the background cardstock pieces and filling that space back in with some more neutral patterned papers, does the trick.

The journaling is always a key piece in my pages.  I have a tendency to be a bit wordy at times, so finding just the right spot to fit my text and not overwhelm my photos can be a bit tricky.  I found this awesome wooden oval-shaped frame from Crate Paper in my stash.  The wood tones were a great match for the outdoorsy nature of the page and the center of the frame left a good surface area to include my journaling.  I accented the frame with a few layered leaves, cut with my silhouette, a wood veneer heart and a sprinkling of enamel dots.

The 3x4 card that sits just above my journaling, serves as the title for my page.  This 3x4 card, along with the coordinating one I've used on the right page, are printables from Cathy Zielske.  I love the clean and graphic feel to these cards, which is very typical of her style, yet they still mesh nicely with a more collage-y design.

 

The second page of my spread is almost a mirror image of the first.  The photo placement is again concentrated in the center of the page, with the collage elements framing out the ends of the photo arrangement.

 

 

I carried more of the diecut leaves over on to page two, mixing them among a kraft envelope, additional printable and diecut title.  Some machine stitching, to secure the pieces, and a sprinkling of embellishments completes and enhances the layers.  I love how all of these pieces overlap and layer together to mimic the look of a freshly raked leaf pile.

Two Page Tuesday #3

Hi readers!  Welcome to another installment of Two-page Tuesday.  I'm calling this one version 3.0. 

I just spent the weekend with some of my favorite girlfriends - chatting, eating, laughing and scrapping!  While I wasn't nearly as productive as I've been in year's past, I still have a small pile of pages that I'm excited to share here on the blog in the coming weeks.

This is the first of those pages.  I bought that darling black and white Doodlebug graduation paper because I knew it would be just perfect for documenting my youngest son's preschool commencement.



Supplies used: Doodlebug patterned paper and sequins; Bazzill Cardstock - navy, We R Memory Keepers cardstock - gray; Jillibean Soup polaroid placemat; Love My Tapes black glitter adhesive sheet and black & white polka dot washi tape; Echo Park star die; Simple Stories label sticker; Memories black ink; Other: Silhouette, foam adhesive, computer journaling.

I had seven pictures to include on this two page spread.  In order to fit them all in and still have room for lots of other fun details and important info, I sized the pictures down considerably.  Using Picasa (which you can download for free right here), I put 2 pictures on each 4x6 canvas resulting in a series of 2x3 photos.  With the pictures scaled down, they fit just perfectly within the margins of the Jillibean Soup polaroid placemat paper.

Many of the placemats include cute words and icons that are already diecut into the page.  I simply backed each of those spaces with a coordinating grey cardstock to make them fit in with the rest of the design.

I also reached into my Love My Tapes stash for this page.  In fact, you can view this page on the Love my Tapes blog today. 

I used the black and white mini polka dot tape to give the illusion that several of the polaroids were taped to the page.  I also used LMT's 12x12 glitter adhesive-back sheets to cut a series of diecut stars to accent my page.

Sprinkling the stars by my title and even carrying them to the left page, creates a nice 'frame' on both ends of the layout.  It also draws the readers eye fully across the two pages.

 

Putting together a two page layout doesn't have to be difficult.  Here I've lined everything up very formally and linear.  The addition of cute details, diecut stars, sequins and even a bold title spices up the page and makes it interesting.

Two-page Tuesday #2

Good morning!  I'm popping in today to share my second installment of 'Two-page Tuesday'!  Today's page features pictures from my little girl's second birthday party. 

Surely I'm not the only one that takes a million and one pictures during my kid's birthday celebrations, right?!  There is no way, anything less than a two page layout will suffice to properly preserve these special celebrations.  From the cake, decorations, guests and opening of gifts - I tend to try to capture it all.  And while this page showcases eleven (!) pictures, there are many more that aren't included.  (Just a note: oftentimes, I will add an additional insert in the album, using divided pocket page protectors, between the two page spread, to include all of the extra photos).




Supplies used: Doodlebug Design - patterned paper, stickers (arrows & chevrons), enamel dots, balloon brad; Technique Tuesday: stamps; Stampin; Up: ink; American Crafts: kraft cardstock, date stamp; Other: silhouette, veteran typewriter font, circle punch, foam adhesive.

The formula for this page was pretty simple and very linear.  I sized  all but one of my photos to 3x4".  Doing so, allowed me to fit quite a few snapshots and provided an easy formula for lining them up along the two 12" pages.  I chose one photo to size a little bigger, about 4x4", and act as my focal point.  Scaling the pictures down in size also allowed me to fit several different Doodlebug patterned papers (four in total!) and lots of stamping, journaling and embellishment.

I will never admit to having the most creative of titles on my scrapbook pages, but I do love mixing up the mediums I use and layering in some embellishments. :)

 

How fun are those ombre chevron arrow stickers from Doodlebug?  I was so happy that this collection coordinated with my photos, just for the fact that it would allow me to use them!  I love the added dimension and interest that popping them up with foam adhesive adds.

Two-page Tuesday #1

Good morning!  I thought I'd pop in today and start a new feature I'm hopping to share regularly on the blog - Two-page Tuesdays! 

A lot of the inspiration we see in the scrapbooking world comes in the form of single page layouts.  I'll admit when it comes to making layouts I often default to the one page layout, as well.  Sometimes it's an issue of timing.  I'm a slow scrapper, so I'll go for a single 12x12 page because that, in itself, will take me several hours.  With that said, oftentimes a two pager is necessary to include all of the pictures of an event/memory.  It's fun for me to mix it up and I like the mix of pages in my albums.

Today's page features pictures of my son's baseball season and lots of Elle's Studio goodies.



Supplies used: Elle's Studio - patterned paper and diecut pieces; American Crafts - cardstock, baseball flair, and thicker chipboard letters; My Mind's Eye - enamel dots; Other - Veteran Typewriter font, machine stitching.

I typically like to work on the pages independent of one another.  Oftentimes, I will pick a focal point photo and make it the 'star' of one of the pages, as I did here.  I love this shot I captured of my boy looking back at me from the bench.  Using this single photo allowed me to included a lengthier title and lots of paper and diecut pieces. 

 

 

I'm all about layering, and I love the way the papers and pieces look all stacked together.  I ran several of the diecut  pieces through my printer to add journaling and spread it across both pages. Washi tape, machine stitching, foam adhesive, enamel dots and folding down the corners of some the of the pieces add lots of texture and interest - all ultimately leading your eye to the focal point photo.

 



Since I used a single photo on the first page, I sized down the rest of my photos on page two.  This allows for me to include more, of course, and tell the complete story.  The photos were all sized to 2x3's then I manually cropped them and arranged them until they formed a pleasing design.

More layers of diecut pieces, text, stitching and embellishment tie complete this side of the spread and tie it back to page one.

 

I hope this has given you a little peek into my design thought process, and ultimately provided you a little inspiration to put together your own two page layout!
